Learning Log, Jan 2026
Here in the U.S., ICE has been carrying on its proud tradition of committing human rights violations, as it continues to terrorize the country it purports to “secure”. So, I’ve been thinking a lot lately about despair and hopelessness vs hopeful, defiant collective action.
Honestly, that looks like plenty of multi-tasking (crying about the soul of humanity while burping the baby). Where I always come back to after the latest crying jag is:
- You or I alone cannot control what these sentient fart clouds are doing in Minnesota and beyond
- What we can do is wake up every day and recommit to our values. We can each do something to build a more beautiful world. We can trust that there are many, many other people who share our values. We can seek those people out and build stronger communities with them.
We cannot let these wannabe fascists dictate how we live our lives and how we feel about our neighbors. We can and will build communities truly dedicated to “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness”—whether they like it or not.
If this resonates with you, you likely know of the same key resources I do, but just in case:
- 5 Calls: contact your U.S. reps about issues important to you
- Stand With Minnesota: support the communities being ravaged by ICE’s chaos
- Northwest Immigrant Rights Project: for my local friends, NWIRP is already prepping for the worst
