Netlify

2021–2024 — I owned the vision and strategy for cross-functional collaboration and business user self-serve on Netlify. Previously, I focused on continuously improving the developer workflow, so that teams can code, ship, and validate their web experiences seamlessly.

Netlify App for Slack
The Netlify app enables cross-functional teams to monitor and collaborate on their sites—from the channels they already use for daily communication.
Automatic deploy subdomains
Developers can configure pre-production environments to be available at custom subdomains, ensuring that third-party integrations with domain-related security requirements will work similarly to production.
Netlify Drawer for branch deploys
The Netlify Drawer enables teams to collaborate on pre-production changes, but previously was only available to Deploy Previews triggered by PRs. Making them available on branch deploys fosters collaboration in teams with branch-based deployment flows.
Scopes and deploy contexts for environment variables
Developers can limit environment variables to specific scopes, such as builds only or functions only. They can also change the variable value based on the deploy context, including branch-specific values.
Azure DevOps integration
Developers can now quickly connect a site on Netlify to an Azure DevOps repo. Their entire team can take advantage of the Netlify workflow, including: automated builds and deploys; deploy notifications; and collaboration on Deploy Previews.

Microsoft Edge web platform

2015–2021 — With my collaborators in Microsoft and across W3C standards membership, I led on the future of web technologies—with special focus in accessibility, privacy, CSS, and HTML control customization.

All platform advancements and browser features considered the needs of two core constituencies: users who want a safe and pleasant browsing experience, and the web developers who build for them.

Customizable controls
Microsoft, Google, Salesforce, and the rest of the Open UI community are working towards a future where HTML controls are more developer-customizable—from both a content model and aesthetic perspective. We started with a customizable <select>, complete with a proposed <popup> part and CSS anchored positioning scheme.
Automatic HTTPS
Automatic HTTPS switches user connections to websites from HTTP to HTTPS, helping to keep people more secure from threats such as man-in-the-middle attacks as they browse the web.
Quiet notification requests
Many people we interviewed about permissioned APIs find notification requests annoying or disruptive, unless they can clearly understand the value of notifications in their current context. Quiet notification requests in Microsoft Edge reduces such requests to a more subtle UI treatment, so users can stay focused as they browse.
High Contrast in Chromium / Forced Colors Standards
Windows High Contrast is a broadly-used assistive technology which enables people to render their entire operating system into colors of their choosing. This project brought High Contrast support to web content in Chromium; we were also incredibly excited to *finally* standardize styling capabilities for forced color modes.
UI Automation support in Chromium
UI Automation is a Windows platform accessibility API which enables assistive technology (AT) products—such as screen readers—to provide information about applications, their UI and contents to end users. Microsoft and Google engineers teamed up to bring UIA support to the Chromium project.
