Learning Log, Oct 2026

How about that blue wave, y’all?! 🌊

👷‍♀ What I’ve been working on

  • Peachtober 2026: participated in my first month long, daily art challenge
  • Sewed and quilted a Frankenstein’s monster pillow case. Technically I finished it on Nov 1, just in time for Halloween 2027.
  • Went to a friend’s house for craft night. I painted one of the mugs she threw on her wheel, and hand-built a paint brush rest from clay.

🧙🏻‍♀️ Side quests

An unusual amount of travel this October! First, I met up with my immediate family to visit my brother in Colorado. He’s always sending us beautiful photos of the area’s natural splendor, so it was fun to check it out firsthand. The Garden of the Gods was absolutely spectacular; S was thrilled to ride around on my back in the baby throne.

Orangey sedimentary rock structures jut out of a landscape populated by scrub brush and conifers

I got back on a plane not too long after, en route to Chicago for a work trip. I unexpectedly got to cross an item off my bucket list: we caught an NBA game at the United Center, Bulls vs Knicks. Such a treat to watch my first live game where a legendary team has played, and a great game it was: neck and neck the whole time.

A basketball stadium bathed in red light to match the Chicago Bulls' team color. Dancers are on the court, partially illuminated by bright white beams of light.

On my way out I took a solo jaunt to the Art Institute of Chicago. So much on view there, I could’ve spent double the time wandering around the exhibits. It’s neat to see works I learned about in school, but honestly the anonymous “applied” arts are always among my favorite pieces.

A cute earthenware sculpture shaped to look like a small horse. The horse is wearing a bit and saddle, for the deceased it will accompany to the afterlife.
